Forum: feature_films Subject: Frankenstein '80: Does GATT apply to this one?

Though I'm always glad to see a new fright flick here, I can't help but wonder if this should be here:

Although I saw no notice in the opening credits, would this movie be elegible for GATT? If it's PD, great.

This may be an orphan, since M. C. D. Film Production made no other films before or since. Still, if it's here, somebody must have put it out on tape or disc, so who knows?

Like you said, who knows. I don't. I feel there is a good chance that it is GATT, but I'm not sure, so I'm not ready to flag it until I know more. HektorT thinks it is, and he could be right. Could we hear from some others? Maybe Video Cellar?

It's a foreign production and eligible for GATT renewal. If the NIE was filed OR if there is no copyright notice (remember this is a special case for GATT, no copyright notice means that it IS NOT PD), it would be diffcult to argue that it is PD.

Then I guess it should be removed. I do appreciate what the uploader was trying to do here, but what we have to remember when we upload movies is that just because a film is old and obscure doesn't make it PD. It's a little more complicated than that. It's best to check here in the forum first to see if a movie is ok to upload before you take the time and trouble to upload it. At least it will save you the hassle of having your item taken down after all that work and wait to put it up.
